Kanno Koi Farm

The house

Kanno Koi Farm is a nishikigoi breeding operation based in Yamakoshi, Nagaoka City, in Japan's Niigata Prefecture, established in the early 1970s by Hiroshi Hirasawa. The farm is now co-operated with his son, Kazuhiro Hirasawa, continuing a family breeding program on roughly 50,000 square meters of mud ponds and specialized koi houses used for raising both young (tosai) and jumbo koi. Kanno has become particularly well known for its Goshiki, bred for a strong blue net-like (mesh) pattern combined with elegant black markings and vibrant red, and has earned a reputation in the US trade as one of the leading Goshiki specialists. Alongside Goshiki, the farm also produces Sanke, Showa, Kohaku, and Kikusui, with several of its lines tracing back to the prestigious Matsunosuke bloodline.
