Omosako Koi Farm was founded in 1960 by Ryuzo Omosako in Kure City, Hiroshima Prefecture, after he became enamored with Nishikigoi and began bringing fish from their origin in Niigata Prefecture. The farm relocated to its current site in Tochihara-cho, Kure City in 1973 and incorporated as Omosako Koi Farm Co., Ltd. in 1992. After encountering foundation Shiro Utsuri bloodstock in 1978, Omosako began producing the variety in earnest in 1979 and, through the 1980s and into the early 1990s, introduced champion parent koi sourced from Sakai Fish Farm and other Niigata breeders to refine the line. The farm is now run by Ryuzo's sons, Takayoshi and Takahiro Omosako, and is widely regarded as the leading Shiro Utsuri specialist in Japan, while also producing Showa-Sanshoku and Kujaku.
