Shinoda Koi Farm was founded in 1952 in Oguriyama, Ojiya City, Niigata Prefecture, and is also known in the trade by the nickname "Ushizo." The farm has been run across at least two generations, with Susumu Shinoda operating as the second-generation breeder and Masanori Shinoda cited as the current owner. Spanning roughly 80,000 square meters with about 50 mud ponds and around 100 parent stock, the farm produces on the order of 65,000 koi per year. Shinoda specializes in Ginrin Showa, Doitsu Kohaku, Doitsu Showa, and above all Hi Utsuri, and is widely regarded in the trade as the premier producer of that variety — a red-and-black patterned koi in the Utsurimono family.
